This Excellence Program is available for young women between the ages of 16 and 19 years who reside within the North Okanagan (Vernon, Coldstream, Lavington, Lumby and Armstrong). Candidates who join the program make long lasting friendships, enhance their resume, obtain required graduation volunteer hours, and have the opportunity to win scholarship money.
This program requires hard work and dedication, but the skills that are learned will last a lifetime. The young ladies chosen as Vernon Ambassadors spend their year travelling as Ambassadors for the City of Vernon. They also attend a variety of events within the city.
We thank our 2016 Judges, Emilia Gazsity, Dave Deshane, Colleen Csakany, Cathy Davies, Tawnya Cameron, and Kathy Morgan as well as Auditor Galina Labun. The Queen’s Committee is comprised of Betty Anderson, Sue Slater, Sandra Simao, and Antonya Crosby.
For approximately six months all candidates attend classes each week. Personal growth is encouraged and valuable skills gained through time spent on topics such as:
- Financial Awareness
- Hair Care
- Health & Fitness
- Local History
- Interview Skills
- Make up/Skin Care
- Modeling & Deportment
- Self Defence
- Speech Craft
Candidates are given the opportunity to show the poise and presentation skills they develop by taking part in the program’s three main events:
- Fashion Show
- Talent Showcase
At the conclusion of the Excellence Program a number of scholarships are awarded. To receive a scholarship the following conditions must be met: - Recipient must have successfully completed all aspects of the Excellence Program
- Recipient must be a citizen in good standing
- Recipient must present proof of registration at a recognized post secondary educational institution
All scholarships are given at the discretion of the Queen's Committee, who would like to thank the individuals and businesses that contribute to the scholarship fund. While the Excellence Program does ongoing fundraising for the scholarships, without the generous support from the community fewer candidates would receive this financial support to continue on to their educational goals.
