Queen Silver Star the 59th

Hayley Rakos

After a wonderful 18 months, and as I near the end of my journey, I look back at the girl that entered the Queen Silver Star Excellence Program and compare her to the young lady before you, that has learned to present herself with grace and poise all while having fun and embracing new adventures - opening my eyes to a world of opportunity around me.

There are so many people and groups that I would like to thank. First, to The City of Vernon, for giving me the opportunity to be an ambassador for our beautiful City. Also, to Wayne Emde for taking so many wonderful photos so we can always look back and cherish the memories we have made. To the Vernon Winter Carnival, thank you for including us in the many events throughout Carnival week. Thank you to the Queens Committee for always being kind and supportive, thank you for the amazing car trips, many laughs and for all of the memories made along the way. Your countless volunteer hours are what make this program thrive and your dedication has not gone unnoticed. To Maddy, my princess, thank you for making this year so much fun, I wouldn’t have wanted to do this with anyone else! To Krause Jewellers and Centre Dry Cleaners, thank you for keeping us clean and sparkling! To the many instructors, thank you for all the time you put in to our classes, we truly appreciate you as the skills you have taught us will be carried with us for a lifetime. Kalamalka Rotary, I cannot forget your support throughout my candidacy. I loved being invited to your lunches and seeing all of your kind faces in the crowd cheering me on. Thank you to my friends and family for the support throughout the program, and to the new friends I have made along the way, thank you for opening your arms to me and filling our time together with joy. Lastly, to my Mom and Dad, for the tremendous support throughout the program and everyday. I would npt be where I am today without the both of you, giving me confidence and cheering me on while I was on stage and helping me with my hair when I wanted something fancy!

I would like to wish the new royalty long lasting friendships, memorable experiences and a lifetime of joy.

With that, I am, and forever will be, Queen Silver Star the 59th, Hayley Rakos.

There are not enough words to describe how grateful I am to be Princess Silver Star the 59th. Travelling and representing Vernon has been an experience like no other, I have made everlasting relationships with fellow ambassadors all over our Province. Thank you to the City of Vernon for this truly wonderful opportunity!

None of this would have been possible with out my candidacy sponsor, Vernon Silver Star Rotary, especially Craig Goplen and Teresa Durning, you two have been extremely supportive and loving.

To the Committee, Celine, Justine, Alley and Kenna, the time and effort you have put into this program is incredible and does not go unnoticed. To my family; mum and dad, I could not thank you enough. When I forgot to tell you about an event, you always forgave me and rearranged your plans. To the Vernon Winter Carnival Society, thank you for inviting us to your events, and always wanting to hear about our experiences. Your encouragement has always been appreciated. Thank you Krause Jewellers, for always keeping our crowns sparkling and looking brand new, thank you Centre Dry Cleaners, for always keeping our dresses and banners clean and pristine. To Vernon Volkswagen, thank you for always providing us with a vehicle to get to and from countless events and parades. To Wayne Emde, thank you for always catching my good…and bad side, and for always supplying me with snacks! To my Queen Hayley, this year has been insane but I am thankful I had you to keep me grounded. You have taught me so many things and I wish you the best of luck in your future endeavours.

To our 6 Candidates, take every moment as it comes as they go fast, you will want to remember it all. You are all amazing girls and I trust you will embrace the life lessons this program teaches you. I wish you all the best of luck!

And with that, I am, and forever will be, Princess Silver Star the 59th, Madison Barrett.
